Our History
Shereens won the NDA provincial award for best ECD centre - Urban category 2016
We are very passionate about early child development and we strive to make the level of education available to one and all.

Our History
Shereens Montessori Pre-Primary, founded in the 1970s, was an icon in the Salt River community, South Africa. During the Sowetan uprising, the school faced challenges in addressing community expectations of learning and teaching methods. Despite this, Imam Omar Taliep financially supported the school, and older people contributed materially. In 1977, Shereens was forced to relocate to St. Luke’s Primary School in Salt River. The Islamic Early Learning Foundation was established to provide a non-profit public company, allowing the school to operate as an employer and pay UIF, PAYE, and eventually become a tax-exempt organization. The school implemented the Montessori method in 2020 and won the NDA provincial award for best Early Childhood Development Centre in 2016. The Islamic Early Learning Foundation is registered as an NPC and has board members as directors. Our school has a rich history and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in early childhood education. We celebrate the beauty of diversity and the richness it brings to early childhood development. We have evolved into a vibrant community that welcomes children from all faiths and cultures. Through our diverse curriculum, we incorporate various cultural perspectives and traditions, helping children appreciate and learn from one another. Our dedicated educators are trained to support each child’s individual journey, ensuring that they develop not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
Shereens Play Centre's name changed to Shereens Montessori Pre-Primary when our school implemented the Montessori method of education, approximately 21 years ago.
